Lemon oil is pressed from the lemon rind. Several varieties of lemon tree grown in warm climates; originating in India, it was brought to Europe by the crusaders, and is widely cultivated in Italy. It has long been used as an antiseptic, particularly for bites by disease-carrying insects. Today it is used as flavouring in foods and drinks.
